SCULPTURES FOR THE NEW AGE – ROYAL JARMON { ARTIST TO WATCH }

1_DSC_0095_v2

I’ve been following Royal Jarmon’s work for over a year now. Initially intrigued by his watercolors and now in complete awe of his transition into sculpture. Abandoning all traditional materials in sculpture, Jarmon has invented his own mediums that come with their own pre-determined auras. Whether that be a crumpled up box of cigarettes or patterned rope that you can surely find at a sporting goods store, Jarmon re-invents the material’s meaning and use over and over again. These sculptures take courage, a step outside the norm of what people usually call “art.” His most recent sculptures teeter on the line of found art, with literal trash being bound to other disregarded forms. One person’s trash is another person’s treasure is proven true by Jarmon. Adding curated yogurt cups and smashed cigarette packs to brilliant painted hues and patterns adds a whole new layer of worth in our world, all through Jarmon’s compositions. I applaud his brilliance a million times over and cannot wait to see what found materials he turns into a thrilling piece of art next.
