PAINTERLY FEEL – VOGUE LIKE A PAINTING {EXHIBITION/INSTALLATION}

DSC_5622

Thyssen-Bornemisza, one of the most famous museums of Madrid, it’s hosting from July till October an exhibition made up of more than 60 images taken from the locked files – but not for longer – of Vogue Magazine. Classic photography along with insanely new talented photographers, such as Mert Alas & Marcus Piggott, Mario Sorrenti, Steven Klein, Guy Bourdin or Paolo Roversi. These pictures were taken with an evident reference to pieces of art from Vermeer, Hopper, Van Eyck, Botticelli, Degas or Dalí. The source of this idea turns photography into something with a higher value; models becoming muses from nearly a century ago. Dutch portraits, Golden Age, Victorian or Pre-Raphaelite are some of the artistic currents taken as the basis for these creations.  Like Tim Walker in everything that he does, he manipulates and forces something to get that artistic feeling, creating an atmosphere in which time slows down, becoming timelessness the best word to summarize it.
