Coasts is a euphoric, charming, indie-pop band breaking out on tour with their soulful contrast of scintillating rhythm and moody lyrics. Hailing from Bristol, England, all the way to Club Dada last Friday night, they played on an un-barricaded stage that added a sense of intimacy to their striving, yet mournful tone. The anthem-like choruses empowered the crowd with a teeming head bobbing momentum and created a sense of upbeat nostalgia. Especially their bold hit “Ocean”, with a traveling beat and summery, lighthearted familiarity that urges you to reflect on life and love.

Their set kept solid, purposeful energy throughout. “Modern Love” explored their influences in electronic music and riled up harmonious thematic hope. Bright spots included ending with a surge of adrenaline on songs like “Rush of Blood”, invoking adventure, with the appreciation of beauty and freedom. This is one of their top songs for a reason, rivaling the four million hits that “Ocean” has on Sound cloud alone.

Live, Coasts has terrific physicality, mixing classical strong guitar rhythm with their indie root vocals that revolve around the spontaneity of the moment, chasing our dreams and facing the fears that such a chase will bring. Coasts offers us a hopeful, charmingly unpolished exploration of these themes with every song.
