SCHOOLBOY Q LIVE AT THE SOUTHSIDE BALLROOM {EVENTS / FESTIVALS}

Its been the week of Schoolboy Q, we cannot deny that. He released a new album titled ‘Blank Face LP’ and announced a world tour hitting every corner of the globe. But before hitting on the official tour, he stopped by the Southside Ballroom in Dallas to remind us of our fan-like devotion to his music and his meaning. It was a hot day in Texas and A/C malfunctions are a show’s worst nightmare but the show went on and the response was over all just good, a few hundred of legit fans congregated to work through the heat and fight for their enthusiasm. ‘THat Part’ had the crowd acting stupid, it was the lit song, it was the one that will save the night from the lack of A\C and sound issues. But personally ”Tookie Knows II’ was dope, as he pulled a girl from the crowd to sing the hook. The girl had little knowledge of the lyrics, but the whole bit was cool.

We got to hear ‘Dope Dealer’ live from the new material, but that was about it. No ‘By Any Means’ or ‘Black THougHts’ or ”TourcH’. Specially since the first to songs are attached to ‘Tookie Knows II’ in a three part music film series. A grievous series showcasing how the justice system in South LA depends in the incarceration and persecution of African Americans and how Schoolboy Q’s character deals with defending his name while fighting to be a paternal figure to his daughter.

Maybe it was too soon, maybe the material is not ready for live performance yet, so we were left with a thirst for more and a ‘maybe next time note’. Schoolboy went on on Snapchat to say “I know yah sweating, I gotta sweat too, and I’m working” Welcome to Texas Q. He will be back in October with full material and the official ‘Blank Face’ tour. Till then listen to his fantastic album available on Spotify and iTunes.
