Just when you thought it was all over, yeah summer is gone but that doesn’t mean the fun is gone with it. Do not hang your bandanas and flower arrangements just yet, because this fall is filled with some insane line ups and some very creative music festivals in Texas. There is literally something for everyone, electronic, folk, comedy and even fucking Bjork and Apex Twins are making a stop at the lone star state. So here are the 5 festivals you can’t miss this fall.
1. Sound On Sound Festival
November 4th, 5th & 6th | Sherwood Forest McDade, TX
Previously known as Fun Fun Fun Fest, Sound on Sound is already set to be an iconic celebration of multi-genre loving fans, comedy and food. With headliners like Phantogram, Run The Jewels, Beach House, Purity Ring, Explosion in the Sky, Young Thuh and Courtney Barnet. How are you not supposed to be super stoked for this event? Also for the comedy Globe Stage the fest enlisted Tim Heidecker, Joe Mande, Tood Barry and many mor, even Pussy Riot members will also be premiering an extended trailer for their upcoming documentary ‘Act and Punishment’. It is a stellar program with something for everyone.
2. Day for Night Fest
December 17 – 18 Houston TX
This is by far the coolest concept we have seen all year long. After their inaugural year last year with Kendrick Lamar, the festival gattered positive national attention. This year we expect nothing less, being able to book legends such as Aphex Twins and Bjork while bringing visual artist from all over the world. This festival is set to stimulate all of your senses, with taste being highlighted as well. The food itself is amongst the most tasties in the country, being Houston you know… Food trucks is kind of their thing.
3. Mala Luna
Oct 29-30 | Lone Star Brewery, San Antonio
San Antonio finally gets their own festival. Mala Luna highlights the Tex-Mex culture with a very vivid and colorful vibes. The line up is mainly Hip-hop, because it is Scoremore and that’s what they do best. Headliners include Travis Scott, Kaskade and G-Easy as well as a few newcomers on the rise Lil Uzi Vert, Lil Yatchyans G Herbo. Knowing Scoremore, we know we can expect a lot of fun activities and food around. They did bring that giant water slide to JMBLYA last year.
4. Something Wicked
Oct 29-30 | Sam Houston Race Park
Halloween is coming up and I’m pretty sure you have not made any plans yet, well Something Wicked will take care of that for you. The spooky fest serves you a full line up of electronic legends like Diplo, Hardwell and Excision as well as some new comers who are blowing the fuck up like Deorro. It will be a parade of costumes and spooky vibes so be ready for that.
Sep 22 to Sep 24 | Downton Denton
This is the perfect festival for the folky and indie souls. Norah Jones herself will be making her return to Denton Texas, the city where she went to school and started her career. Beirut, Best Coast, Cat Power, Pete Yorn, Wavves and Dr. Dog. It is an indie paradise. Considering this fest started as a local hip hop fest, they have come a very long way. The festival also offers, Film screenings, comedy and a fashion show. So clear your calendars because they have a full schedule for you
