Compton native YG 4hunnid has a bone to pick, and knowing his history and the history of his birth city it won’t be an easy bone to swallow. The tour had one specific purpose, to spread the word… “Fuck Donald Trump”. The phrase was heard loud and clear through out the night, like a contagious and easy to relate to message.
YG taking on the republican nominee for president of the United States was not an easy target, but a target well calculated nonetheless. It was because the show felt less like concert but more like a west coast backyard party with the fam, that the fans could unify and scream free and proud “Fuck Donald Trump”.
A taste of the LA life in Texas, a celebration of the community no matter where you or your grandma were from. At some point the rapper invited fans to take turns hitting a Donald Trump shaped piñata and even invited a couple of Mexican rappers onto stage with giant Mexican flags to represent for the Hispanic community very prominent in the west coast.
Hit after hit, the crowd was committed to sing along. For the opening track, ‘Who shot me’ YG came out on a hospital stretcher, like he was about to hit the emergency room. The clever skit definitely transpired a few gasps in the crowd. ‘Why you always hatin’ with Kamaiyah was a hit as well, the female rapper was the opener of the show and is on tour with the rapper. Although the song was cut short to take off Drake’s part, both killed their contributions and got us all hyped AF. ‘Who do you Love’ and ‘My Nigga’ also showcased the intensity and sportsmanship of the rapper, not a beat missed.
Despite the fact that the show was an LA-like Gangster Rap diss show to Trump, you would think the place was filled with bitterness and angry people. But in the contrary, there wasn’t a single sign of hostility in the ambience, it was about defending the rights of our people. Defending our right to express ourselves in whichever manner we fucking wanted to. So S/O to a real ass tour Young Gangster.
